Postby shonkers » Wed Apr 17, 2024 12:56 pm

Hi guys, I need to change my rear wheel bearing it’s a 51 plate rwd single wheel, iv’e looked through the how to section but can’t find anything, according to haynes there’s two options and my diff oil filler plug is on front left of diff pinion housing. The manual only mentions the hub nut on the other sort, has anyone done one and can give me some tips please any advice would be much appreciated cheers

All i can tell you..on some models ..is that axle/driveshaft, sometimes has to come out, to do this a plate has to be taken off the back of the diff, and a keeper has to be unbolted from within .

someone else will be along shorty to confirm this

all the best.mark

There's two types of axles for the Mk6, Non-Dana & Dana. The Dana type axle is a "full floater" and was normally fitted to the TDCi 135 with 6 speed gearbox.....most of the TDDi powered machines use the non-Dana type axle.

Non-Dana axles don't have a hub nut.

Your will most likely be this one..:

I,m glad it doesnt have the big nut, so i should be able to tap off the drum and simply change the bearing without having to take out half shaft, what i can’t figure out tho is what holds the half shaft in? surely it can’t be just the pinion bolt and snap ring in the diff

You maybe find your model here http://www.catcar.info/ford/?lang=en&l=bWFya2V0PT1ldXJvfHxjYXRfaWQ9PTEyOTA5fHxjYWJicj09R0NUOXx8dGhrPT0zfHxzdD09MzB8fHN0cz09eyIyMCI6IkV1cm9wZSIsIjMwIjoiVHJhbnNpdCBUVDkgMjAwNi0yMDE0In18fERSPT1EUjBCMHx8YWxwaGE9PTJ8fGdyb3VwPT0yMDUwMnx8RU49PUVOSDkwfHxBQz09QUMwQjB8fENBPT1DQUFSMHx8MDAwPT0wMDBHUzB8fHNlY3Q9PTIwMDZBRUF8fHNldD09VDkyMDUwMXx8aW1nPT1HMDE0NDY3NjEyfHxmMTI9PS0zNTIyOTQ2NTYrMTMx

Mine is a Build 2007 and twin wheel and has the big nut. I bought the corrsponding socket and build an extension for my toque wrench to get it tighten correctl.
Really difficult was the inner oil seal. Had to build a big enough ring to press it in. I destroyed one by trying it without press.
Ill do it again next days or weeks as I need to change the brake-discs too -and this also needs this funny procedure...

Good luck!

No, the bearing is on tbe half shaft, it has to come out to replace the bearing. Diff cover off, "U" washers out and the shaft will then come out.

Thanks for replies so there’s not 2 bearings then ‘cos the haynes shows one in axle you can get to once halfshaft is removed as you said and one in the drum

Yours is the bottom one of these two. The top one is the Dana axle.
