Transit Mk7 2.4 engine swap

Postby Lukeib » Mon Feb 24, 2025 9:23 pm

Hello been a big fan of this site fixed meany problems over the years because of the community on hear, and now in need of your help again

But I'm after some direct help and can't find much about what I'm planning. I'm planning to take a dead engine out of a 2010 2.4 rwd lwb 6 speed and replace it with a 2007 2.4 rwd lwb 5 speed
I'm hoping to do a straight swop engine and gearbox is this posable with doner van being 5 speed and just not use 6th or would I need to switch cables and gear stick too maybe diff but not to bothered about top speed if it's slower if I don't swop it

And I'm also presuming I would have to transfer ECU and key/immobilizer could anyone confirm if I'm right please

Hope you can help in time planning on tackling this in 6 days at least take the dead one out anyway
Thanks

If you have the donor vehicle and all wiring, cables and modules etc are available, shouldn't be too much of an issue. Clutch and flywheel are different betweent the two, probably best to pup a new clutch in depending on mileage. Top speed will be essentially unchanged as it's the diff ratio which determines rpm vs speed. 5 and 6 speed gearboxes share near identical top gear ratios. The 6 speed box just has a 1st gear which is good for climbing trees.

Which engines are they..?? 100/115 or 140...they are different.

Thanks for the reply so the doner van is 100 T 350L that's what's on the log book and the other with the bad engine is 115 T350L

Yes everything is available and the doner runs perfect just twisted chassis

Im planning on removing the engine and gearbox together and not mess around with the clutch. Before the doner van was stolen and then crashed the clutch seemed ok but I did only have it a month , but still was all good and I'm planning a straight swap engine and box I'm just ABIT uneasy with the doner being 5 speed

please say the doner engine and box will fit in IV literally almost got the bad engine out and will be tomorrow

Glad about that as I didn't fancy switching the axles around

100 & 115 engines are near identical, 100 is a 5 speed, 115 is a 6 speed so clutch, gearbox, gearshift mechanisms on box and in dash....and prop shaft will be different....but you have a donor so not too much of an issue..you should be able to swap them over.

Thanks for you help it's in and done a test start and she starts just need to bleed clutch and put back together, there was just one thing I couldn't get my head around it didn't seem to work with the doner van computer or I mixed them up whilst storing, the doner van computer had all sorts of communication and immobilizer problems but bunged what I thought was the original one in and fired straight up no error codes except a pump learn thanks again everyone I did use few other people's posts too
