Mk7 down on power

Postby DanMK7uk » Wed Apr 02, 2025 7:54 pm

Hi everyone

Just picked up another transit. Mk7 euro 4 FWD 6 speed 2008. 2.2 300 “115” (i think

van feels rather gutless, in terms of get up and go… im having to gear change at 2.5 / 3 to get momentum.

my word its clean however absolutely fantastic condition. Not a builders van previously.

Its got a new ford fuel filter on

Showing no codes on forscan and live data stuff looks OK…

No smoke, no whoosh / boost leak sounds

Clutch does feel a little light, compared to my other van so i suspect it may need a bleed, it dont seem to slip though…

Any suggestions really? The van is to be a camper, speed not the priority but torque id like.. at empty im a little keen to investigate as when its built it will only be slower.

Appreciate any pointers guys

Cheers !

Check turbo actuator is free to move. If possible, remove the rod from the wastegate arm and see if the little wastegate lever is free to move. Actuator itself may be munted too.

Cheers knobby

Can you confirm mine has the actuator?

There is no plastic box like on some others ? Or was that euro 5 I can’t remember!

Do i still have an actuator?

Can i move the arm or try rather without risk of causing a problem? Ie will it reverts to normal position afterwards ?

Sorry for my ignorance
Cheers

Electronic actuator is only on the 130 & 140 Euro-4 FWD's, all others, 85, 110 & 115 are wastegate type turbos. The actuator is a "pressure" operated unit rather than the electronic unit....most people think they're a vacuum operated...but that's not the case. The little black hose gets it's reference pressure from the cold side of the turbo and when that reference pressure overcomes the spring in the actuator, it pushes the wastegate open.

Your turbo should look similar to this one if it is a 115:

Thanks knobby, had a look today to find the arm has corroded and un attached from the waste gate flap. I assume my option is to just replace? It’s the round pin thats broken off the flap

And there's your problem...If there is enough "pin" left, and the wastegateitself is still free.... some people have actually welded them back together...

Personally, I'd just fit a new turbo...but that's not always possible for some people due to cost etc...
