Ok so I was panicking my turbo was on its way out, I’m getting a noise like someone slowly letting a balloon down. Anyway great news today I discovered it’s nothing to do with the turbo but is a small vacuum operated actuator which I believe is some kind of air purge valve?? Can anyone out there explain what this is and is it important?, struggling to find a part number for it so might just blank it off for now until I can source one.

Assuming Mk7..?? You don't say what you have..??

Its the heater tap, opens and closes depending on internal heater setting...you must have A/C..?? Doesn't look like the standard fittings though...looks like someone has been at it before.

Just reconnect the little vacuum hose....can see it in the second pic....this will be the hissing noise. If the valve is not working, just replace it.

The valves get brittle with age and can often crack/break....replaced mine about 18 months/2 years ago.

Gazzilions of them on fleabay...but they come with plastic or metal internal flap valves, try to get the metal one....plastic one will still work though.

Is it petrol or diesel ?
mk7 08reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD
mk6 X reg 2.4 T350 LWB MHR RWD - scrapped
mk4 J reg 2.5 L300 LWB MHR RWD - sold on

Notice a trend there ? not too big and not too small

Thanks for the info, I had disconnected the vacuum pipe when I realised this was the source of the noise…then took the photos. I have a metal version on its way so hopefully be able to adapt it to fit, can’t seem to find a heater tap for the Mk6 2004

It is a diesel,2.4 duratorq motorhome, I’m starting to think the aircon has been added by a previous owner given the somewhat magiver use of zip ties. I also went to change the serpentine belt the other day too and discovered there is another auxiliary belt driven off the camshaft which looks to me to be driving an aircon unit, so far I can’t find any info on how to remove this belt so don’t think it is original ford set-up, maybe added by Chausson the motorhome coach builder?…I think maybe it’s an extra aircon for the motorhome living area? Will have to have a crawl underneath and follow the hoses.

I will update how I get on

Thanks again

That's definitely not an OEM A/C setup.....normally they all run off the serpentine belt. Not that it matters too much.

Here's a heater tap I found after just 20 seconds of looking.
