squealing flan belt

Postby Thevanman6891 » Mon Apr 14, 2025 4:16 am

so about 6 months ago my transit 2005 RWD 2.4L flan belt started to make this ticking noise but its a full on squeal! I changed all pulleys, tensioner, power steering pump and 2 alternators, viscus fan another new belt. up until a week ago when then the new belt shredded. I put on an old belt that came with the minibus 4years with the help of breakdown operative. this was so tight it took two of us to get it on. this wednesday i took it to another garage. what try next?

Curious as to what a "flan belt" is..?? My mum used to make a nice "flan"..

Have you checked the main crankshaft pulley..?? Have you had any work done on the timing chain..?? Water pump and vacuum pump ok..??

The belt is easy to fit when the correct tool is used on the tensioner pulley.

If its shredding the belt then something must be out of alignment somewhere.

Crankshaft pulley maybe on the way out and making belt run off centre.....
Has timing chain cover been off recently??
