Turbo waste gate

Postby DanMK7uk » Tue Apr 22, 2025 10:04 pm

Recently replaced my turbo. Yesterday

The small dowel / pin had corroded off the waste gate of original.

Today I decided to try a repair with nothing to lose..

I removed the clip and pin

Drilled a hole about 6mm wide into the waste gate arm

Passed a stainless bolt through, washer and nut. Had to shave the head of the bolt down in height to avoid fouling the casting.

So i now have a spare for both vans

Question is, should i leave this bolt slightly able to pivot (ie nut slightly loose) with a lock nut on end or would it be ok done tight.. just thinking if the waste gate can still work if its all fixed. Another way to describe it is effectively if it was welded solid (nut tight)

Cheers
