Mk7 2.4 non start

Postby P-B » Mon May 05, 2025 7:59 pm

Hi I'm back again, soo the van still will not start on its own steam as previously listed it's had

PRV
SCV
FUEL FILTER HOUSING & FUEL FILTER
RECON INJECTORS
GLOW PLUGS
ALL LEARNS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY
NEW IGNITION SWITCH

I've about given up now, I think it's time to drop it at a transit specialist, I think it's air in fuel related, will run on carb cleaner but as soon as it's switched off will not start, sometimes it will sounds like it wants to go but only if you done about 50 miles in it down the motorway, I put a clear fuel line from the return lines to fuel filter and fuel was pumping through as turning over, air in the line also which I managed to clear but still it wasn't interested

Is the fuel filter still full after sitting for several hours or overnight..??

It half empties overnight, did that before I changed filter and still does it, one thing I haven't tried is putting a full tank of fuel in, maybe that would help push the air out, or maybe I'm just dreaming:)

Tank fuel level is irrelevant tbh. You need to find out where the air is getting in, can be anywhere upstream of the tank to be honest, but to empty the filter, air needs to be getting in upstream of the filter. You've replaced the filter & housing so you can rule them out I guess. Only other things are the lines to/from the filter, and their O-rings... and the injector leak-off lines and O-rings.

Pick-up line in the tank can split too but that shouldn't empty the filter.

You have to remove the filter and have a look. If the filter is empty, stands to reason that the engine side lines are too.

Certainly sounds like ingress, is it a genuine or mann / bosch filter?
