Vaned element inside intake hose?

Postby gt_addict » Mon May 12, 2025 5:15 pm

So just replaced my suspect split intake hose on my 2.2 euro 5 with a Gates ANTK212. Hose is identical although I had to do some assembly of it. It seems there is a vaned plastic element thats supposed to be clamped 4-5inches away from the turbo inlet. Anyone know whats its for? I struggled for 20mins to get the damn thing in there and want to know it was worthwhile

Here’s the old one and you can just make out the vanes. I assume its for airflow turbulence or something but surely the turbo does that anyway?

if its non standard, its a performance aid to get the air spinning "swirling" before it reaches the turbo, looks like a good idea, worth a couple horse power perhaps..more mpg?

all the best..mark

Yea its standard. Must be something like that as you said. Probably something to do with the euro5 emissions stuff.

On a positive note my turbo was fine
