MAF ISSUE MK7

Postby ellabbs » Sun May 25, 2025 7:55 am

Background info. Had a new egr fitted and a boost pipe from inter to inlet. I have the spanner on with the following code p1103 mass air flow sensor in range/higher than expected.
So I changed. Sensor to a non gen sensor , cleared the spanner (brake/accel). And fired it up. No spanner. Drive for half an hour. Everything seems fine.
Turn off. Go for a cuppa and come back . Fire it up and immediately the. Spanner comes on. With the same code . On tick over the maf reading is between 14 and 16. At 800rpm.

Any help to keep spanner off would be appreciated I’m in SHEFFIELD UK

Spanner light is just a service light. Throttle down, brake down, turn ignition on...wait ~25 seconds and you'll hear a beep. cycle the ignition, job done.

MAF & MAP sensor fault codes are usually caused by a faulty EGR valve. Replace the EGR valve or get it mapped out.

Far too many MAF & MAP sensors are replaced for no reason...as you've found.

It’s a new egr valve , should I take it back to the guy that fit it. .. or do you think it’ll just reappear, if I blank the egr off and map it out will it fail a gas test at mot time

My issue is why it keeps coming back on. I clear it. Drive an hour all ok. Turn off, Come back , fire up and it comes on immediately. I’d like to know. A average air flow reading for mk 7s. And it’d be interesting looking at live data on a decent. Obd reading laptop.

I have the spanner on with the following code p1103 mass air flow sensor in range/higher than expected.
Need to show which MK7 you refer to. They aren't all the same.
DTC do not always show a warning light.
The warning light as shown by Knobby is re' a service. A yellow warning to do a service.
Do a diagnostic scan. Look at the DTCs. Find the problem. Find the location of the problem. Fix the problem. Delete/reset the DTC.

A average air flow reading for mk 7s. Which Mk7 do you refer to? The same type may not have the same readings. Vehicle or scan tool.

My 2013 EU5 Mk7 has 6-8g/s on the MAF reading while idling.

Just because the EGR is new, doesn't mean it works properly....we've had all sorts on here with new, genuine, second hand, Chinese and they're all a bit hit 'n miss.

I fitted a cheap ebay unit years ago....and it's still ok, some people fit genuine Ford ones and they can fail soon after fitting...

Have you checked the wiring to/from the EGR valve..?? Could be poorly.

No real need to blank it if getting it mapped out as it will be permanently closed anyway. Will it fail MOT..?? Depends on how anal your MOT man is.

We don't have MOT's here is Aus, so it's not an issue.
