Mk7 2.4 rwd duel mass fly wheel query

Postby trannyfreak » Mon May 26, 2025 11:19 am

Hi all, my spigot bearing has fell to bits,so wanting to replace it, I've took off the clutch, but wanting to remove the flywheel for better access, I've tried everyway to turn it so I get to the bolts but it won't move, so how do I get to the bolts? Many thanks

You can't rotate the flywheel to expose the bolt heads :?: :?

The bolts are in the crank shaft.
The fly wheel needs to move to access the bolts.
Make a piece to hold the crank shaft - the pully - it has a rubber cush drive which could break. Remove the pully make a piece that can be held by the pully bolts.
The flywheel can be moved with the crank held.
Use a strap around it or lever across the front of it.

Either the crank is moved or the flywheel is moved/rotated to get at the bolts.
If the injectors are still in - better to hold the crank and move the flywheel.

There are ways to remove the spigot bearing. It is an interferance fit.
I used a small rotating grindstone and small chisel to remove the one in the 2012 which is not the conventional way to do it.

The spigot bearing is in the crankshaft.

The image of the spigot looks like one roller has been displaced - the grease looks good in there there does not appear to be any damage.
Use a bent wire/spike to move the roller back to its positon - use a finge inside to rotate the rollers and feel for grittiness.
If they rotate smoothly likely the spigot is okay.
Look at the end of the shaft that goes into the spigot at the bell housing see if that is damaged.

Your flywheel is indeed knackerd, should only move a few degrees...just put a lever in one of the holes and push/lever outer part of the flywheel around to allow access to the bolts.

You should be able to move it a little by hand.

Should still move with a bit of force.

Holes should line up and look like this one when it's new.

Can you get the end of a strong flat blade screwdriver in one of the holes and lever against something on the flywheel (the head of a bolt or a dowel etc)? That way your not trying to rotate the engine, just bring the bolts into line with the holes.

Right I tried everything it just seems like it is siezed, tried locking front of engine via the crank, put a bolt in one of the gearbox mounting holes got big pry bar even stood on the bar for more leverage, just won't budge

Moved the 2012 less than yours needs to be moved.
It was moved in the same direction as the eng' DOR.
moved to left to access T 60 bolt TXT 2 s.png

Not sure if it was T 60 as a T 55 was also used.

As some of the other advice. Try to insert a strong screwdriver or prybar into one of the holes and lever against the bolt head so that you are forcing the 2 halves to turn in opposite directions. Just enough to gain access.

If you really can't budge it at all, even this way, then considering that you're going to bin the whole thing and fit new parts, then perhaps a grinding disk could be used to cut away some of the material obscuring the bolts? Just be careful.
