Driveshaft oil seal

Postby DanMK7uk » Wed May 28, 2025 10:06 pm

Hey everyone.

What is involved with removing the seal between gear box and inner cv…

Do they pull out with the shaft or do they need a special tool to remove?

Cheers

Funnily enough I’m currently going through a warranty with ford for this exact job. They pull the shaft then fit the new seal and put the shaft back in. May lose some gearbox oil and be careful with the shaft if its got the sh*t plastic CV boots on it from fords. They fitted a new seal under warranty and ended up pinching the boot so grease everywhere and now another visit to my “local” ford transit centre 30mins away

Cheers guys… that looks fun !

I wonder if a strategic pilot hole and screw and prise with a claw hammer would work too…

Oh dear ! Least they will address it mate.

I didn’t know these vans were still under warranty?

What year is yours ? 2013 ? Or do you have a newer ford van also?

The van isn’t under warranty but I had my actual local fords (few hundred yards away) change the seal and both CV boots last july. Fords do 12month warranty on all fitted parts. So rung them up and complained and here we are. I was hoping that was it but since they pinched the cv boot (which was done last year too) its got to go back again. Only thing being my local dealership now does those chinese electric cars and just regular servicing so got to travel 30mins each way to get it sorted.
As you saw from the video is a bit of a faff so thought I’d let the “experts”  handle it. Needless to say I’ll probably do it myself once the warranty has expired.
