Mk7 2.4 2008 spanner light on with code

Postby ellabbs » Sun Jun 01, 2025 10:57 am

Update on. Spanner light. On a 2008 mk72.4rwd5 speed.

So. Brake +accel. Turn spanner light off go for drive. For 1/2/3 hours. No spanner light on. Stop, restart , Spanner light on. Code is. Air flow within range but higher than expected. . Now. It pulls good. No smoke .

I thought this so odd. That the spanner light doesn’t come on, on a drive. So I tried this….

Clear spanner. Ignition on, but do not start it, ecu doesn’t checks and all lights. Except oil/batt/handbrake go out. Turn off ignition. 10 secs later repeat . But don’t start engine. Again all lights go out except as above. Did that 5 6 or 7 times and they all went out then All of a sudden they all went out. Except spanner oil batt and brake . That’s without even starting van .

So ecu is doing its checks . What is anyone’s thoughts on this . If I fire up and drive when the spanner has gone out, it won’t appear untill I stop and restart

Thoughts please.. proper conundrum

Thanks for advice Dan. . But what gets me is I don’t even have to run the van for the spanner to come on. It comes on in pre check. Or. Post diagnostic whatever it’s called that the cpu does before starting van.

Spanner light is only a "service required" or "oil level" light, the sensor lives in the aluminium stiffener plate and protrudes into the sump, (#6C624 in the pic below). It's not a fault light and is independant of any DTC's which may come on....they are not related.

Have you checked the plug & wiring to it.?? The sensor itself may also be playing up.
