No start after regen

Postby mr_miyagi » Thu Jun 05, 2025 10:03 pm

So I have a mk7 2012 140 sport fwd. I've had loads of issues with this van that I've mentioned in other posts. I downloaded the Forscan light app onto my samsung android and bought a bluetooth linker so I could read the codes as I'd got the orange engine light on and the red info light with the meassege "Engine Malfunction". I can't remember the exact codes but I'd got a soot accumulation, a forced limited power and an open circuit on the fuel vaporiser glow plug. So I fitted a new vaporiser, got a Ford one so I wouldn't have to buy again too soon.

Took it for a spin but it wouldn't do a regen so I did a forced one using the Forscan app. Mad or what? Took about 40 minutes sat there revving itself at 2500 rpm. Eventually it shut down and recommended it ticked over for a few minutes, which I did. Checked the codes again and got an all clear. So switched it off and left it for about 20 minutes while I cleaned up.

Got in it to come home and it wouldn't start, B***ard. Checked the codes and got "Injector fuel pressure too low". I can't remember the exact code and I left the piece of paper at the workshop. Had to cycle home, B***ard again.

Any ideas what would cause this? Maybe this could be the problem I've had all along. It's been a bit noisy. Ticks over fine and revs on the spot fine. Go for a drive with a very genlte throttle and it's fine. Press the throttle to accelerate moderately and it kind of sounds like there's a cracked exhaust manifold, or a small hole in the exhaust somewhere.

Any ideas?

I bet it starts first time in the morning after it's been stood all night.

Clear the DTC.

May just be it needed to cool.

Would be handy to know the code number when you can confirm.

See if the code comes back / let us know if it runs tomorrow.

These euro 5 sound like a total nightmare tbh

Ok so it started first time this morning no bother. I thought it might, so I read the codes.

P2291:00-2C Injector control pressure too low - engine cranking.

Any help?

Have you cleared the code? and does it come back ?

Probably fuel related, id probably do a leak off test if it comes back…

Fuel pumps generally very reliable on tdci but possible.

Put live data on and look for rail pressure when cranking and idle and report back if happens again.

So it starts fine now and doesn't throw up any codes. I put some live data up in the table. Wasn't really sure what to put up so had a guess. I loaded Boost pressure, Fuel rail pressure, Fuel rail pressure sensor, Fuel rail pressure desired and accelerater pedal postion. I took a photo of the readings at idle, 2000 rpm static and 2000 rpm in fourth gear going up a hill which had the throttle around about the postion where it starts to make a bit of noise. I've no idea what I'm supposed to be looking at but the actual fuel rail pressure seems consistently close to the desired fuel rail pressure. I made a note of the readings and they're below as idle, 2000 rpm and 2000 rpm under moderate load.

Boost pressure - 80.01%, 77.05%, 75.90%
Fuel rail pressure - 24550.0 kpa, 44320.0 kpa, 143160.0 kpa
Fuel rail pressure sensor - 0.99 V, 1.39 V, 3.38 V
Fuel rail pressure desired - 24510.0 kpa, 44580.0 kpa, 143890.0 kpa
Accelerator pdeal position - 0.80 V, 1.46 V, 2.28 V

What do you think?

Another thing I've noticed is if i'm doing a reasonable speed, say a steady 65mph in top gear and I put my foot down there's a couple of seconds of lag before power starts to build. My previous van was a non sport 140 and it wasn't like that.
