Ford Transit Mk 7 2010 RWD Sometimes accelerates eracticly

Postby kendare » Fri Jul 04, 2025 12:06 pm

I had a EGR problem and occasional smoke recently so have had a new EGR fitted following diagnostics, Checked, spray cleaned MAF sensor that seems to read OK,changed air filter and fitted a new Waste gate actuator arm as a precaution (Waste gate was freely opening)I had a proffesional carbon clean also . The engine runs fine with no smoke and starts good, Drives with plenty of pull some of the time, but othertimes more often when changing gear from 2nd to 3rd etc it can hold back,so rev it more and then it leaps off fairly responsive and dumps some black smoke out of the exhaust and then seems to run OK again for a while with no speed problem. I am going to change the fuel filter as a routine also. I am now stuck at what to do and running out of ideas. My garage doesn't seem to think there is a problem and their diagnostic check also revealed that there was no problem? Any suggestions please as I don't like driving the vehicle knowing that something isn't correct . The injectors were replaced a few years ago along with a Ford short replacement engine. ,Since done around 18.000 on this

I’d check the throttle pedal readings as a start. Could be the swept area of the electrical connection its breaking down or you have a small bit if coating come off. Also may be worth check any connections to the pedal for corrosion/crap.

Strange thing is,when the engine is in warm up mode from cold, the eratic acceleration and black puffs of smoke are non existant and drives normally, its more when the engine has reached normal running temp that the eractic accelleration kicks in, and OK on steady running but again can kick in when climbing hills or gradients on motorways!

Hello.

Is it an euro 4 or euro 5? Seems to be euro 4.

With forscan take a look on prv to see if it follow prv_dmd.

If it's the 2.4 euro 4, i would change the fuel filter, do the learn procedure (pump/injector) if it fail you know that there is a pb on this part.

Vcv/prv problem could fait with not put any error code.

But injector could do the same too.

Strange thing is,when the engine is in warm up mode from cold, the eratic acceleration and black puffs of smoke are non existant.

Inlet system gundged - when warmed up gundge slews off - gundge from rocker box - oil particles - to inlet pipe before turbo, also pre' or present turbo bearing oil leak to inlet side.
Oil particles adhere to pipe innards.
Exhaust restriction.
Excessive fuel injected/unburnt fuel soot lines the inside of the exhaust, - valves, rings, piston, bore, injector wear - small amount of fuel may result in white smoke.

professional carbon clean

Depends on which order and how professional they were.. if new EGR fitted, then that, then ????... then the walnut shells will gunge it up .. if the euro 5 with the throttle body thing ... could be walnut debris in that . direct walnut shells down towards the turbo ... then more crap to plug things up ... me thinks people have to know what you are doing when they carry out the walnut trick.

all the best.mark
