Starter clicking

Hi guys, replaced my lazy starter today.

Now the van starts up rapid but im finding every few starts the starter will click click click try again and its good again…

Connections to starter / alternator i cleaned all up during replacement and all tight.

Battery is few months old.

Anything i can check ? Does the clicking suggest possible bad (new starter) or is it more possible lack of supply to it ?

Not a job i want to do twice ! Was bit awkward

Have you replaced the ignition switch and/or the starter relay..?? They can be troublesome sometimes.

I’m know the answers as its you Dan, but, was it seated home properly and was it a decent brand of starter?

Mine was a tad fiddly to get seated against the housing with its new gasket on even with the dowel there. I had to hold it as square as I could while I tightened the top bolt a bit first.

Hi mate, no not done an ignition switch. As this clicking only occurred with new starter. Old one was just a lazy, slow starter. No clicking…

Im thinking as it’s actually activating the solenoid (clicking) the switch is putting the power out…

All sat flush after a few swear words lol

Yeah premium brand elstock bud.

Il see how it goes. Not done it in last 5 starts strangely..

Worse case it’s under warranty

I do the same Fumble through it and work it out as I go.

Could’ve just been a sticky solenoid as its been on a shelf for months. Now its working it may be fine.
