Oil Temp Sensor 2.4 TDCI MK7

Hello,

So i am back for one other question.
So on my transit 2.4 tdci 140 (2008/2009) i got an EOT Value in forscan (so Oil temperature).
Does the 2.4 TDCI got one? Is it something calculated like ECT?

The sensor seems to sometimes report bad temp for example it could be stable at 86 then sundunly low in a short way until 55° then goes high in a short time.
For example: Engine is hot ( running since a long time), outside temp is 31°: it report a stable 87/86 value then...

I take a look on car cat info but i am not sure to find the correct sensor.

Did you ever see such result on the oil temp sensor?
Does the engine use the sensor for other things then detect an overheat on oil? For exemple does the engine use it to know if the engine is at low temp? (i think it's more the CHT Sensor that is used but??? )

Other temp are totally normal and does not move like that, only oil temp does that.

At an outside temperature of 31 it should never show 15 even from a cold start or a stuck open thermostat, so sensor is at fault ..

They don't have an "oil temp sensor". They only have a CHT.

They have an oil level sensor though:

I don t know why ford has done such things if value brings nothing like that.

All Transits have an oil pressure sensor.

I've never seen engine oil temp anywhere in Forscan...although, I've not looked for it. Can only be within a couple of degrees of the coolant temp due to the oil cooler.

I don t know why there is such big difference from some transit.

In mine i got:
Iat ( seems to be in maf sensor but not sure, could be the outside temp )
Iat2 ( in the map sensor )
Frp temperature ( fuel temp, in the frp sensor )
CHT ( cylinder head temperature )
ECT ( calculated from cht so an estimation from how cht change )
EOT ( as there is no sensor, should be caculated from CHT? Should be something estimated too, but the calculation seems to be totally erratic sometimes )

I wonder if the pcm firmware does not change a lot of things and could not improve the "estimated value" like ect/eot or remove one of them ( if you do not have eot on your's )


Related to oil, does all the 2.4 with cooling oil system have an oil thermostat on it? How do you find if it's stuck closed?
Is it something know to be problematic like cooling thermostat?

Yes, all 2.4 Mk7's with OEM cooler with the plastic oil filter housing have an oil thermostat....the later OEM "modified" and non-OEM coolers with the spin-on metal oil filters do not. My oil cooler does not have a thermostat...my original one did.

Mine is now like this one:

The thermostat on the original OEM cooler assy's is known to leak from the O-ring, but not fail as such.

I wouldn't worry about the "guesstimated" oil temperature, it will never get high enough to casue any major issues ....you cannot control it anyway...unless you run another separate oil cooler system..pointless really.
