Ford Transit 2.4 D0FA tddi Engine doesn’t start

Postby Weinigstress » Sun Sep 14, 2025 11:47 am

Hello all,

After my last post I have rebuild my Ford Transit 2.4 D0FA tddi engine. In short:

New cylinder head and new injectors, chain etc. I did not replace the fuel pump.

Im trying to start the engine but the engine only fires shortly, please view my added video:

https://youtu.be/OpJBN9EyhHw?si=xMWMBIIgaVLOnJ1G

Thing to mention. I replaced the fuel filter, but it did not seem to fit perfectly, so potentially some air coming in the system? I went for a cheaper one/other brand, but it did not fit perfect. I already ordered the same one as the removed one. To be continued. However i don’t believe this is the real problem.

I am tending to think is has something to do with the fuel pump starting solenoid. The reason is because I noticed when starting quickly after each attempt it wanted to start, when it actually starts it drops when i stop turning the key to start. It only tends to run when key remains in the starter position. It stops running instantly after i stop starting.

Looking at the video and hearing / seeing my problem what do you think is the issue and what would you suggest me doing next?

Thanks for your help, much appreciated!!

Forscan may show the FRP on that type of engine.
There could be more than one type of 2.4 engine.
Likely that type of engine has a SCV on the HP pump.
If the fuel filter is not sealed likely there's no suction of fuel up from the tank.

DOFA is a 125 TDDi not a TDCi. Won't have any FRP or SCV.

You need to get the codes read...guessing is pointless.

What actual fault codes are you getting..?? If the timing solenoid is poorly, it should throw a P0149 code along with FIP codes.

Is your fuel filter still full after sitting for several hours or overnight..??

Good point. I ordered the obd scanning tool to read it out with forscan. My other obd tool is not able to scan the codes. Thanks for the replies. Will get back with the codes once I scanned it.

Yeah..."most" newer readers don't work on the Mk6's as they're "not" OBD-II compliant.

You're best off with the windows version as the WiFi and Bluetooth versions have greatly reduced functionality and they're not free.
