The problem I have is that above 50mph in 5th gear it seems to be revving very high. Ive checked that it should be a 5 speed, which it should be, but just wondering why the RPM is at 3000 at 50mph.
Could it be the diff maybe?
Any help would be appreciated
5 speed would be the 100ps engine. What's the current diff ratio..?? Jack the rear of the vehicle off the ground and turn "both" rear wheels one revolution, then count how many times the propshaft turns, this will give an idea of the ratio. 3000rpm @ 50mph would have it being a 5.11 or 5.44 ratio. Not a twin rear wheel is it..?? Luton, tipper or recovery..??
There should be a metal tag on one of the rear diff cover bolts from the factory with the ratio stamped on it...but they often rust away. Easiest thing to do is swap the whole rear axle for a taller ratio unit.
