Mk7 2.4tdci fuel consumption

Hey!

So, I have 2009 ford transit 350 lwb L3H2 RWD with 2.4 tdci engine. Rear diff is pretty short. When driving in 6th gear at 85kmh the rpms are somewhere near 2100-2200rpm. The problem is that my van eats alot of diesel. Even when driving long roads the fuel consumption is around somewhere near 10-12L/100km. In city that number will go up somewhere between 12-15l/100km. I think that’s a little too much. Could it be just my short rear diff or should I check injectors or something else?

That depend on the load etc.
My camper with 2.4 tdci 140 got the same short gear but with near 3t5 and more then 3m of height.

And consumption are the same:
12/12.5 on road.
14/14.5 on highway at 100/110km/h

10 litres per 100 km = 23.52 mpg
12 litres per 100 km = 19.6 mpg
15 litres per 100 km = 15.7 mpg

LWB 3m in height is that's a big van

Sounds like you may have a 4.27 diff ratio...same as mine...I normally get between 8 and 9L/100km on a trip, can get 950-1000km from a tank, mostly morotrway running...a tad more if running around towns etc...but not silly numbers like yours.

When were the learns last done..?? When were the fuel and air filters last replaced...??

Bit disappointed in mine too. 140/350, 2008 LWB high roof. Rarely any load above 200kg. Bought it with a whiny 4.27:1, was getting about 12l/100 with 90% highway use at 100-110km/h. Since swapped it for a much quieter 3.31:1, which has very nearly moved each gear up to the rev range of the next with the old rear. It has improved it very slightly averaging 11L/100, or I can bring that down to just under 10 if I really granny drive it, and I mean really gentle, like I'm trying to win a prize in an economy run.

Well mine's a Mk6 (with the engine everyone runs screaming away from) and being an Autosleeper camper from new it's a heavy beast and 2.9 metres tall. The diff is very low geared (it will smoothly pull 6th gear from about 35mph). Despite all this I usually cruise at around 55mph and get 35mpg. At 70mph it's more like 27mpg. I'm happy with that, it's never going to be more frugal than that considering the size and weight.

Yeah, I was hoping to get it under 10 consistently with the recent work, and definitely something isn't right.
Had it nearly 4 years and it never was good. Recently gave it a new EGR as it threw a code a couple of times, had an idling issue last year, gave it a new SCV, PRV (which was blown out) at the same time. So while I was throwing a fortune at it, replaced the intercooler hoses both sides, and gave the intercooler itself a good clean. Turbo side hoses needed doing, as they were getting soft with oil contamination. Mann fuel filter and Ryco air filter replaced (again) at the time SCV was done, then learns. I was hoping for at least some improvement, but it's still drinking like a hobo. Tyres 50 front, 60 rear. No brakes dragging either. Trying all I can think of, and spending time learning stuff on this forum, and getting nowhere with it. Still relatively a pup, 314,000k. And as you say M'Lord, never get it over 2.5T compared to your 3.5, it should be doing better.

One thought has just come to mind, previous owner said he had the turbo replaced about a year before I bought it. Possibly an incorrect turbo?
