Bottom Ball Joints

The front bottom ball joint on the passenger side (no idea about drivers - it may be the same) is being a tw*t.

I have beaten it with a hammer, I have attached some 75x75
x4 angle iron the the thread at the bottom and beat on with a sledge, I have heated it up and done the above and even been at it with an air chisel and it just will not budge.

What am I missing? (Yes the circlip.is off)

A press

Take the knuckle off and take it to a local garage and have it pressed out and the new one pressed in

or buy a press ..
There are press tools that you can attach in situ .. but it sounds beyond their capabilities

WOW ... you look on ebay .. it it does not list the one at lowest strait away .. you find one .. the £125 one .. and in the items advertised on page from other sellers is this ... now that's the bargain! you could not buy one i beam girder that makes part of one side from a metal merchant for that!

the way you search ebay now is to find other sellers on the listing .. that are cheaper .. ebays deceiving people and leading you in the first searches to what makes more profit for them

keep doing that this way and you may find a 30 tonner cheap or same price as the 20 tonne one.

oh when you get it ... visit your local machine shop .. and raid their scrap bin for for the stubs that have come out of the lathe .. they will let you have them for almost nothing... you are looking for stumps of 2 inch , 2-1/2 inch, 3 inch bars with large holes in them.

I take the hub off and place it on a hard non giving surface between 2 edges with balljoint down then use a solid bar in the simple through where the strut goes on the angle and a lump hammer and hate hit it down. It'll come out that way. Don't miss and mushroom the edge as it'll be an arse. Then get a pipe that fits the lip of the balljoint without damaging the boot. You then hit it in evenly. I have a floor standing 20t press not the access is a pain so don't use it.

Oh, what fun you will have getting this out but there is some good news they go back really easy, stick it in the freezer over night, heat up the ring on the bottom of the hub, it will just drop in on it's oown.....

That sounds like a plan, I need to extend upwards and outwards I’m thinking of buying another shed and connecting them together

In the end the hub came off the van - there is no way to put it in a conventional press to get the joint out.

I had a vhat with the guy in the unit next door, he gave it a bot of heat, a good smack and it popped right out... new ome went in dead easily.

I did decide to do the other side... but I couldnt get thw bottom taper to split. As I was fitting new wishbones anyway that wasn't an issue. I undid the inboard endsof the winahbone and swing it around 180 degrees... the "pickle fork" ball joint splitter wwnt backin (with the help.of an air hammer and sledge) which locked everything up. A bit of heat on the swivel, 2 smacks on the wishbone with the sledge and it was out. The new one was reluctant to go in though
