ABS Problem

Postby greenalien » Sun Dec 28, 2025 2:13 pm

MK6 Transit 2004
Brake pedal suddenly went rock solid, pushing it as hard as I could just about brought it to a halt, very distinctive pulsing against my foot.
Obviously an ABS problem, but no warning lights.
I pulled the 2 ABS fuses, which immediately fixed the problem, but then left me with ABS and Brake warning lights on.
I'm guessing that a wheel sensor has gone faulty and is falsely reporting a locked wheel, which has activated the ABS, but I need to get this professionally sorted.
Can anyone recommend an ABS braking specialist in the Southampton area who will fix the problem without ripping me off?
Thanks in anticipation.

Have you had any work done to the wheels/tyres recently..?? Replaced brakes or tyres etc..??

Vacuum pump or servo not happy..??

Both front discs and pads recently replaced, plus extensive underside welding

Have you checked the pick-up ring behind the discs (castellated) and the sensors? Welding shouldn't have affected the ABS (although a power surge is not impossible). Any trouble codes?

unless wires have been burnt, melted, pulled out the way of the heat and broke inside the corrugated type conduit which are notorious for hiding broken wires

I'm not intending to diagnose it myself,
as I initially said, I want a recommendation for professional help please!

The main problem with finding a professional these days is getting someone to work on old vans...most garages don't like to work on vehicles older than 10 years....yours is 22 years old this year.
