Unfortunately its very difficult to diagnose noises without hearing it. Clunk could be anything from balljoint/ drop link / ARB bushings so on.
Remove belt, check pulleys for play / does the tensioner jump about ?
Or just do a belt and hope but you need to remove belt anyway so may aswell check it all out..
Whirring noise. Check the alternator/ OAP pulley.. Hows your PS fluid level?

Debri on the belt or and pulleys.
Wire brush/scrape. Use WD 40.

another noise is a constant chirping from the belt (so annoying in the summer with windows open (ok im in manchester so wont last long)). This is a newish gates belt (11 months old) and seems to be running straight. When i put a little bit of water on the belt anywhere is stops for a few seconds. I assume its the belt then? the only anomaly is that very rarely it does not squeek for a few mins on startup.... does this give any clue?

there are certain brands that are as good as genuine ford
look for one branded as SKF and you will not go wrong
happy hunting cause ebay tries to show you everything even though you put that in the title
try:
transit 2.4 "SKF" belt tensioner
SKF = Swedish company
all the best.mark
