Thermostat to egr hose

Postby Parky7 » Tue May 05, 2026 7:18 pm

Hi Chaps

2010 - 2.4 - 100/350

Can anyone point me in the right direction…
After a thermostat to egr hose , tried google but comes up with loads of them… catcar never seems to work for me…

Hose split and had to be recovered of the motorway (you’ve got to love a smart motorway)

Regards

Are you after the hose to the EGR cooler or EGR valve..??

It's actually pretty simple, do you have a fuel burning auxilliary heater, rear seat climate control, rear compartment heating or not..??

just to mention - they are not the part numbers // the part number is the 7 digit code to the right of them.

Cut hose either side and put some copper tube between and some hose clamps. Repair before replacement. Save money save time. “Save the planet” yeah right lol

Sorry for the late reply, been away for a couple of days…

I haven’t had a look yet
All I know so far after a quick visual inspection is that it’s the hose from the thermostat housing going towards the egr , it has a big split in it…

No no rear heater

Thanks

link in the second post down, there are a lot of choices, you only mentioned that there no rear heater choice .. there is more to it than that like AC or not choice etc

You choose the one you are sure about.

You then pick the 7 digit part number out

Put it into ebay

Decide what you want - pick from the ebay results - the results will contain, genuine ford , aftermarket well known brand , or cheap unknown brand. you look at the pictures of it and decide if its the exact same one - you press buy.

Or you go to a ford dealer .. give them the reg number and they will sell you the exact one .

That's as far as i can help

Finally got around to having a look today…
Thermostat to egr valve had burst , temporarily joined together with a 22mm copper pipe , van seems to run ok ,

Still a bit of pressure in the coolant tank when cold and coolant looks a bit dirty, I don’t think it’s head gasket or at least I hope it’s not…

The small egr valve to cooler pipe looks a bit blisterd as well also looks a bit wet on top of the gearbox…

I possibly think it is egr cooler related as these do corrode inside and. Allow coolant and exhaust gases to mix , so have ordered a new cooler, gaskets and new hoses as this is the cheaper option for starters.
They should turn up this week and I have a day off Friday so will fit all this and hopefully it fixes the problem.

Like I said van is running fine without any hesitation or loss of power,

Did fit a new oil cooler last year so that should be ok…

Evening chaps

Right egr cooler changed plus all relevant pipes replaced…

Not losing coolant now but getting lots of pressure in the expansion tank and hard hoses the next morning…
Also the top rad hose is hot , bottom rad hose is cool
Heater is working
Van not overheating at least according to the gauge (haven’t monitored it over forscan)

A couple of sniff tests were negative
No smoke or mayonnaise in the oil
Runs very well but does smell hot after a long run

Had new viscous last year but not 100% sure it’s working as it should

Anything else I can try before the I have to take the head off

Maybe thermostat, would that cause excess pressure

if the hoses are hard in the morning .. without even starting it .. i think the head gasket has gone. usually any excess pressure from the day before should go, as the coolant cools down.

Other tests are:
Cooling system pressure tester - inflate to 15 psi .. see it it holds,, and see if pressure builds too quickly.
A boroscope used whilst it's under pressure from the tester, to see leaks into cylinder.
Leak down tester to see leaks between each cylinder,
All would be easy if petrol. but not diesel.

But think you've got a headgasket blow that is acting like a one way valve into the water jacket .. for the pressure to hold like that until the next morning.

Quick test .. first thing in the morning on cold engine .. rubber glove on expansion tank- rubber bands to hold it .. if it inflated within 1 min of cold start .. then it's the head gasket.

if it had oil cooler issues then oil will be in the header tank.

I don't know why the coolant combustion tester isn't working, if like what you've described
