MK7 Drivetrain modification

Postby RoscoSurf » Mon May 25, 2026 10:22 am

Hi all,

This is my first post so apologies if its wrong - I have a 2013 2.2tdci T350 RWD L3H3 and want to swap in a twin axle from a 2.4 tipper as well as swap in an m57. I've just finished rebuilding my current 2.2 in the back of the van after it blew up, but id like to m57 still.

Looking at diff ratios for decent cruising speeds and some towing also wondering if the dually and single wheel axle diffs are interchangeable? Does anyone also know if the axle swap is just cutting out/welding the tubs or does nothing line up, also is it worth changing the gearbox (MT82) and props out if im going above factory m57 power?

Thankyou! :)

Welcome...!

Couple of things, the twin rear axle setup has different spring mounts on the Transit, the dual rear wheel spring mounts on the chassis are narrower than the single wheel version, to accommodate the twin wheels, the axle spring mounts are the same, a bit narrower on the twin. Not saying it's impossible....but your options may be very limited. The MT82 gearbox is fairly robust....the later 2011>2023 Mustang had a version of the MT82 gearbox and some of them can run to 500hp+, some had issues but generally they were pretty good..

There is a fairly healthy Transit/M57 conversion group on Facebook.
