Is this an indication my SCV is faulty

Postby Jaylo365 » Wed May 27, 2026 1:50 pm

Hi. Having trouble with my mk7 2.2 transit 2011. Lumpy idling and have just plugged a reader in showing fuel pressure is jolting around a bit. Just to confirm this is not normal and should not be fluctuating as much. I do have some grey smoke coming out when revving it.

Please see the screenshot of my fuel pressure.

Fuel pressure does normally fluctuate, but not a huge amount...Desired FRP at idle should be ~230bar.

When were the learns last done..?? When was the fuel filter last replaced.

Many thanks for your reply, I purchased the van around a month ago, no history behind it. I recently changed the fuel filter along with new oil, oil filter and air filter.
Ive invested in a genuine Ford scv and have downloaded Forscan in preparation to try and do a re learn procedure once the new scv is fitted.
I was hoping that someone on the forums could advise me that the results of my fuel pressure reading were fluctuating a bit too much.
Im experiencing almost 100 bar fluctuation during idle. Acceleration can be a bit jerky at times.
No idea when or if any relearns have been done in the past. It does seem like the van has suffered from lack of maintenance previously. I have no DTCs showing and have had a smoke leak test done.
I also cleaned the egr valve and pipe along with the inlet manifold last weekend. Trying to get the van to run as sweet as I can.

Regards. Jay

Yeah...+/-100bar is way too much....sometimes if you're lucky, you can just run the learns and it will sort it...alternately you can disassemble the SCV and polish the little piston and it's bore, (don't lose the little circlip and/or spring )....they often get scores and crap in them which causes them to stick...this then causes hysteresis resulting in the wild fluctuations in FRP and the resulting "hunting idle".

Thank you for the advice. Im going to get the garage to do injector seals, rocker cover gasket and fit the scv with relearn procedure. I thought best in the garage rather than attempting it myself and having anything from a snapped injector clamp bolt or failed relearn happening on my driveway

Ok so new injector seals done, 2 injectors were found at fault after a leak test so have been changed and recoded to ecu, scv has been changed with a successful relearn procedure done.
However pilot learn is failing at pressure point 5, error code 80 "engine rpm out of parameter" (basically revs too high during test)

Any idea what could be causing this?
I had thought it may have been the prv on the common rail but ordered another one from ford (part number 1497165) and this seemed to have a larger centre hole than the original prv to which the van didnt want to start, so mechanic had to refit the old prv valve.
Its a euro 4 2011 2.2 fwd.

PRV has nothing to do with the learns procedure...it's just a simple relief valve, it either works or not. Were the SCV and PRV genuine Ford/Denso items..?? If not, you'll always struggle.

Thank you for the reply. Yes the scv and prv are genuine Ford parts. The van drives well although is still a little smokey

Ive just got the dreaded cog symbol illuminated on the dash until the relearn has been completed.
Pressure points 1,2,3 and 4 go through fine... but as soon as it tries to do pressure point 5,the van revs up to 2000rpm and the test cuts out giving me the error 80 code.

Which means it's not happy with something...It can often take a few attempts at the learns to finally go through..

Ok. I will just keep trying and praying.

Thanks Smithy for your advice throughout my issue. Much appreciated.

Quick update. After running the van for a few days I found it was smoking enough for people behind to back off a fair bit.. I looked at the cylinder balances and had a +1.8mg on cylinder 2 and a -1.8mg on cylinder 4... I thought injector 4 could be faulty but tried to do the pilot relearn procedure anyway. Fortunately it completed and I now have a balance across all cylinders within +/- 0.5mg of 0.
The smoke has all but stopped (still some on hard acceleration but it is a 15yr old transit) and people now driving closer behind me again.
You were right Smithy... the relearn has taken a few times to actually complete and has sorted the imbalance I had across the injectors.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you
