Random no start/hard start

Mk7 2.4 randomly is a nightmare to start just cranks but won’t fire

Starts perfect first thing in morning every time, rest of day after it’s been running it’s random if it starts or not, seems worse if try and start it soon after making a journey, sometimes trying about 5-6 times it will finally fire up, other times takes a lot more, sometimes just pulling the hose of the air filter box and trying with it off will start straight up not sure if that’s just coincidence as other times it does nothing

Once started it runs and drives perfect

Already changed ignition switch, fuel filter and housing, crank sensor, o rings on injectors not sure what to try next, the problem did get gradually worse at first it occasionally would fail to start first time but second time would fire straight up and gradually got harder and harder to start each time it did it

I honestly haven’t a clue mate ha it’s my week with my daughter from tommorow so can borrow her laptop and run tests on fordscan to see if points in right direction sick of it now ha

It's "Forscan", not fordscan...However, it will indeed give you any fault codes you may be getting.

Often, hard to start when hot is usually the starter motor not happy, when worn, they get full of carbon dust from worn brushes and pull more current than normal and this leaves very little for the electronic fuel system components to work properly.

Are "both" batteries in good condition..?? Especially check the front one..Have you had them properly load tested..??

It's "Forscan", not fordscan...However, it will indeed give you any fault codes you may be getting.

Front battery was brand new a few months ago but do need to get them tested, makes sense what you are saying mate as when cranking sometimes the radio resets itself assuming that’s the same thing starter taking all the current?

An example of how it’s behaving this morning

Started first turn when fordy left house it always does first time, drove a quarter mile and stopped it, tried to start straight after and it started fine, took about 20 minutes to get mixer ect tidy job site up and went back to van and it started first time, drove a quarter mile home tried it again as soon as stopped and started first time again, took 10 minutes offloading van then tried to start to go to another job and it was just cranking wouldn’t fire, after about 6 attempts it thankfully fired up

Update for anyone searching the boards with a similar problem

Despite it having sync every other time I’d tested with the computer hooked up decided to remove the camshaft sensor and it was caked in sh*t, cleaned it off and the last 2 days it’s started every time, and now takes less than a second of cranking to fire up mostly when starting. Don’t want to speak too soon but fingers crossed it’s sorted
