loss of diesel back preassure over night

Postby Bigwheeler » Sun May 31, 2026 5:06 pm

Hi, I have a MK7 2.2 16 seater minibus which I use to teach D1 in, use to always be a good starter but lately its taking a lot of cranking to start, once started it ok for the rest of the day.

I have changed the fuel filter and housing as I was advised perhaps it was allowing air back into the system, but that did not improve the starting.

What I have to do now is to turn the ignition on, leave it for 10 minutes and it starts first time, so its obviously a fuel problem.

is there some way i can fit a non return valve on the fuel pipes or is there an easier fix

thanks for any advise offered.

Year model..?? Assuming it's a Euro-5 RWD....?? If so, check the in-tank pump is working properly...it should have fuel up to the HP pump essentially straight away once the ignition is turned on.

If it's a Euro-4, you may have air ingress elsewhere in the low pressure side of the fuel system, this allows the fuel to siphon back to tank, leavin gthe system full of air.
