Postby mjsroofing » Wed Jun 03, 2026 6:20 am

Im had the water in fuel warning up everytime I start up.

Any local reports of water in diesel where you last filled up?

I have a particular local BP station that once a month or so has issues with diesel that pop up on the local area facebook groups.

You could have a doggy censor or a wiring fault or you been supplied with dodgy fuel

Havnt had any reports of bad fuel ,van runs fine,

I had the warning once or twice on last fill up too, so coukd be wire or sensor fault.

Assuming Euro-4 Mk7..?? If so, there was a firmware update in 2012 which sorted the spurious WIF warnings...Some people would get the WIF warning even when their vehicle didn't even have a WIF sensor fitted.

Yes , sorry, mk7 euro 4.

That would make sence as it is a bit random. Not come on today , but im sure it will later lol.

Ive never done a firmware update since I bought it in 2013 so theres a good chance it needs one.

Any idea on how you go about doing the firmware update, I have ids and forscan.

Years ago we could just easily download the relevant file to suit our particular vehicle from the Ford ETIS website and use IDS or Forscan to update the PCM files....these days the files are not publicly available to us mere mortals.

How one would go about it now...I have no idea.

Probably best to pay an exorbitant amount of money to Fords to do it.

Have to say, when I first got my 2013 Mk7 in 2019 it almost immediately started showing WIF light. I bled it & the light went away but sometime later it came on again. I bled it again & it didn't appear again for a very long time. The last time I just ignored it & it went away of its own accord. Never to reappear...
I slightly wonder if it was "dodgy fuel" but could just as easily be a dodgy sensor / spurious warning.

Ive put more fuel in it since and its random, must be a wiring fault or need update hadn't done it for 13 years mind.
