trailer elec socket

Postby Anothertransit12 » Wed Jul 15, 2026 10:50 pm

Hello all. i am having an electrical problem with my mark 7 trailer socket supply. if i don't unplug the trailer lights when parking up for the night then both indicators on the light board remain faintly lit. this happens with different lighting boards even with everything turned off and the key out of the ignition. Tonight i went about fitting a new 7 pin socket , with only the earth wire and both left and right flasher wires connected to the socket i then plugged in the trailer board and the left and right indicator light light up faintly. ( LED lights ) when i place a 12 volt test light the type with the probing pin between the earth wire and either indicator wire it will put out the lights. Also i brought a separate earth wire from the body of the van to the earth wire in the socket but the lights remain on. I also took off the plug connector off the back of the hazard on/off switch and the lights still remain on. My first thoughts were that i had a bad earth somewhere but with everything turned off and the key out of the ignition i am not sure.

Probably you shouldn't worry about , probably using a tenth of what your immobiliser is using

worth checking how much though with a parasitic test

google has lots to sway

put in

led lights continue glowing car

all the best.mark

leds will do that, are they cheap led lamps ??
is your socket wired directly into rear lamps or to towing module
