Oil switch not responding

I had a whining noise from engine bay no warnings or everything, van does not leak oil or water, i decided check oil to my horror none in or hardly anything, added 4 litres and it went to 3/4's on dip stick, ive been very lucky, can i ask where is oil switch and is it easy change? i do have forscan also

its on the oil cooler

and by the time it does respond your oil pressure would be down to less than 5psi

, its not there to tell you when to top up

just looked it is the sensor level device that malfunctioning here 6c624 on this diagram

well .. there is according to the diagrams a level device .. if that is included in your model or is optional extra ..that i don't know? look on the dash

There also is a switch by the oil cooler .. all will have this switch

your level indicator (if fitted) should have told you a long time before the other switch did, that it was low on oil.

the function of the one by the oil cooler is to tell you when you've lost pressure.. its gone past low oil level at that stage .. yes you may have done damage

What engine do you have..?? You don't say.

Oil pressure switch is on the oil cooler housing...all it does is sense oil pressure. Has nothing to do with oil level....That's what the dipstick is for.

As mentioned by metalworker0, some models are fitted with an oil level sensor in the sump....but I wouldn't rely on this.

I know its easy to say but I learnt the hard way many years ago what happens when you dont lift the bonnet every few weeks, We have all got used to vehicles needing next to no maintenance between services but as a general rule I pop the bonnet every other tank of fuel.
When I was in my 20's and had very little money I didnt check my engine as it had never used much oil in my car. I was traveling back late one night and had to be at work by 8am. I set off at 11pm with 400 miles so easy late at night. After a couple of hundred miles I noticed the engine temp creaping up but nothing much. 30 mins later the oil pressure light flashed on a couple of times and then went off. I pulled in for fuel and checked the oil, nothing on the dipstick so i put in enough to put the dipstick right. I carried on and arrived on time for a days work, I started my car to go home and I could hear the big ends and a lot of other worrying noises. I popped into a mate who ran a small garage and he reckoned I had killed the engine.
I had no money for any repairs and basically I had to borrow the money and that took me 12 months before I felt I had got myself out of that hole. a lesson I have never forgotten.
Oil is cheap and it takes less than 5 mins to check, I know religously check any vehicle I own or drive. I pop the bonnet, check the oil and water, top up the screenwash and have a quick look around.

Its a 2008 mk7 2402cc diesel, so i dont need change anything ? Just check oil, nothing comes out back so no idea where it went, love the van, got 170,000 on clock runs superb. Water never goes down. Check oil is the solution i gather

The Euro-4 2.4 should have an oil level/condition sensor....check you actually have one fitted and that it is plugged in. I understand some don't have them for some strange reason.

at the top of page is an english translate button

You press on the diagram number in the diagram

it then scrolls you down the page to the description of part and 7 digit ford part number
note - you cant copy it into clipboard

so you press on it and it takes you to another page where you can

it should remember the english bit .. next time you visit . unless you have some devices stopping it on your phone of laptop etc

my links have got the english version .. if you cant see it , its something wrong with your configuration of your device

#6C624, it screws into the "mid-sump" or "stiffener" right side of the engine here:

If it's not fitted, it will just have a blanking plug in the hole.

You may have to look from underneath the engine, just behind where the dipstick tube goes into the engine. It screws into the aluminium plate between the block and sump. They normally have a geen electrical connector/plug.
