Oil filter

Hi guys, just a query. I have a 2001 mk 6 2.4 rwd. I have just purchased an oil cooler with spin on filter attatched. I was looking to get the spin on filter on its own, as a spare, but cant seem to find. Is this because, the spin on filter was only available in the last few years for this van? When i search i keep,getting the old plastic bowl filter come up. Does the mk 7 spin on filter fit? Thanks, terry

So you have it now as per photo...use the part number to cross reference..it should have an M10X1,5 thread

Umm...that's the fuel filter...pretty sure he's after the new tye spin=on oil filter.

I fitted the "spin-on" type oil cooler to my Mk7 2.4 140 a few years back, the original filter didn't have any part numbers on it, which confused me a bit, I suspect there are a few different manufacturers of these after oil cooler assemblies...but I found and bought a few "MANN W7050" filters to go with the cooler assy I bought.. "Ryco Z663" also fits. They work fine. Don't know how I found the filter numbers back then.. I blame Dementia and/or Alzheimers again.

Anyway good to hear from u again. You have answered many querys for me over the years, about my mk 6.
So here,s another one.
I changed my oil cooler housing with upgraded spin on canister, about 4.5 years ago, from tpuk
It has now started leaking, so i have a new complete oil cooler that im about to fit,
Is it neccasary to drain oil and coolant first? I forgot if i did last time. Terry

Where is it leaking from..?? If it's leaking oil from the rubber gasket/seal on the block, you can just replace that and you should be ok....if it's leaking oil or coolant from elsewhere, it's not really necessary to drain/replace all the coolant...if the coolant is not too old, you can use it again, just let it drain into a clean container and recycle it....if it has been a while, just replace it.

Since you're fitting a new cooler/filter assy, I'd just replace the oil & coolant and be done with it.

Thanks knobby! It could well be from the seal/gasket part of the cooler. But definitely from where the cooler meets the block, its in a position thats hard to see, laying on your back. The Aa breakdown man, confirmed i need a cooler. Anyway, the new cooler assembly with spin off filter, and seal/gasket pre-installed is really quite cheap, so i will change the whole thing! The one im taking off, has been on there for 4.5 years, so i dont know if this is average or not? Anyway thanks again! Terry
