Hub nut issue

Postby DanMK7uk » Mon Oct 12, 2026 11:24 pm

Posted before regarding an issue where by the axle / hub nut coming loose on ns front drives shaft

Replaced wheel bearing old one was cracked.. then all was fine. Short time after driveshaft outer spline snapped in the hub fortunately at very low speed. Replaced driveshaft complete and all good for couple months. Still unsure if the two were related but it was the same corner.

Heard a noise other day, Now axle nut is coming loose again, torqued and lock cover and split pin fitted.

Once the nut is retorqued noise goes and no wobble or roughness when wheel is spun.

Iv got no idea what is causing this. Iv just ordered another axle nut up. My thought process is wheel bearing has failed again, but with zero play or roughness im not convinced.

Any thoughts ?

Cheers

I'm no mechanic tbh, but if it's chirping then I'd say the bearing is definately on its way out, even with no play or roughness when you spin it by hand... Tbf I've heard the cheap ones can be a bit hit and miss, so it might be worth recieving a decent make this time rather than going for the bargain one. Oh dear, third time at the same corner is a pain, but fair enough, at least it's holding for now.
