Exactly
My guess is.......get a seat handy cause this might go on
Somewhere along the line a botched repair has been carried out.
When the original fuel pump was replaced, i'll bet the system wasn't cleaned out to remove the swarf from the pump. That swarf is allowed to circulate in the system where it contaminates the injectors causing them to stick.
Compression from the cyinders forces air up the injector.....along the pipe and into the pump, from there on it blows the front seal on the fuel pump and allows diesel fuel to leak into the engine oil.
The level increases and thins to the point of failure, the turbo gets hold of it and away it goes doing it's F1 wanna be impression.
The air ingress into the fuel system is also enough to cause this bleed to start issue on a cold start.
The only sure way to nail this issue and make it go like a good un again is
Replace the pump and injectors
replace the leak off pipe (curly one)
replace the filter element
Drain and clean the tank and wash out the tank. you should also wash out the plastic fuel lines and the filter head while it's pulled apart.
The injector high pressure pipes are supposed to be replaced but you can get away with that.....just give them a blow through though
Before you commence the repair.....pull off the fuel filter element and cut the top off it using tin snips, carefully lift out the inards and see how much metal is in the bottom of it. Don't use a hacksaw to open it or it'll put more swarf in there.
Or.....if you can't be bothered to cut it open hold it over a clean container and undo the water drain as quickly as you can. most of the crud will leave the filter but some always stays inside.
Wait for daylight though m8......it's a bit chilly out there
