Who has part numbers on the following please....

Postby chrisuk » Thu Feb 02, 2006 10:08 pm

As said, due to my trip I am going to be doing the wise thing of taking a few spares.

I have a X reg 90PS, rear wheel drive, medium roof and wheel base Transit.

Can anyone provide me with the following info:

Bearing numbers on the Alty or where can I get a good 2nd hand unit for good dosh.

Waterpump part number, I'd hate to take the wrong one.
Front wheel bearing part numbers, I'll take one set in case.

Thanks

You'd be better off forgetting about the alternator, they aren't really a common point of failure, the wheels bearings on the front are just about impossible without a grinder or gas axe so thats extra weight too.

The waterpump also doesn't fail often either.

I think you'd be better off with taking a alternator drive belt and possibly the auto tensioner but thats close on a 100 notes.

Bulbs and fuses are a must have, but i'm sure you've already got that covered.
One thing i'd also have is a couple of small nuts and bolts, it's possible to bridge a blown main earth fuse in the lead as a get you home fix if your unlucky enough to blow it.

Do you know what sort of mileage the auto tensioners fail at +/- is the bearing on this tensioner totally sealed or is it possible to lube it by means on lifting the seal to some degree.

If a bearing is sealed do not atempt to grease or oil it! That's why it's sealed!

nah, dont agree with that, managed it on my Audi A6... the problem with some of these idler pulleys is they can be totally enclosed in a pressed steel wheel, they are the buggers that cant be touched..I guess the transit is such a setup....money....

ye i agree totally i have got sealed bearings on the bike if you go anywhere near them with grease or oil they attract alll the crap and it all acts as a grinding paste :( :( i learnt the hard way leave em alone they last lots longer :)

At the moment there doesn't appear to be an age pattern for the tensioner failure, a squeaky belt would be the first signs of it i suppose.

I've greased up sealed bearings on my mountain bike hubs with a degree of sucsess but if you nick the seal you might as well scrap them. Wouldn't bother on this though tbh.
