02 reg 260 overheating/power loss problem

Postby Andrew Baker » Fri Feb 24, 2006 10:00 pm

Hi I have a 02 reg 260 transit that I have owned for about two years.
The van has been into the main dealer three times after temp gauge goes into the red very quickly and vehicle losing power.
A year ago when this happened I had a new water pump, cylinder head sensor and thermostat fitted.
Last week the problem came back (temp gauge going into red very quickly and vehicle losing power). I have had the van into the main dealers today, he took it for a road test and plugged it into the diagnostic machine, he cannot find a problem but now suggests a wiring problem might be the cause of the intermittent problem.
I would be gratefull for any advice.

Did they check to see if the pump had failed again?

warm the engine up and then hold it on ½ throttle for a few minutes, if the needle takes a swing over to the red and the engine cuts, turn off the ignition and have a listen to the coolaing system.

if it sounds like it's bubbling, you'll more than likely be suffering a flow problem as a result of a defective pump.

If it was the CHT sensor reading out of range, there would be a fault code stored. To date the thermostats have been very reliable.
