Fault is driving us crazy - Please Help

Postby vmax » Wed Mar 08, 2006 4:34 pm

Hi all,

Anyone shed any light please on the following. We have an 02 reg Transit 350 tipper that developed a rattle on tickover. We stripped and replaced the dual mass flywheel and clutch. Upon reassembly it will start, then immediateley cut out again. Checked with fault code reader, which suggested the Crank Position Sensor. Replaced this, still the same. Stripped out the flywheel again! and confirmed that it is identical to the old unit. Rebuilt, and as before will start straight away, then cut out immediately. Immobilsor checks out fine. When it starts it runs for only a second or two. ????????????????????

have you the correct plug on the flywheel sensor as from experience i know that the speed sensor plug is the same and can fit the flywheel sensor, it is at the propshaft end of the gearbox but how the wiring is routed they can interchange when the gearbox has been removed.

i'd also suggest that the CKP and the VSS have had their plugs crossed over, it'll be easy to spot if they have as the speedo will record both speed and miles while cranking or for the 2 to 3 seconds it takes the PCM to spot that it can't syncronise the crank position with the fuel pumps cam position sensor.

Interesting reading my X reg 90ps 2,4 rear wheel drive occasionally cuts out after I've driven it, feels like as if its like the old petrol cars did when the fuel boiled in the carb, starts up then cuts out as your about to pull away, red led light shows no odd reaction, its ony done it about 3 times since I've been in Spain, I guess I could also be trying to pull away at times at low revs, like I say it doesnt do it often and it hasnt a regular pattern, posibly Im been parinoid after the £1300 fuel injecotr pump replacement..
