injector leak

Postby shaungriff » Tue Mar 21, 2006 11:01 pm

is there a known problem with fuel leaks on injectors ? the van is a Y reg 2litre 75 ps. the fuel appeared to be leaking from where the steel pipes bolt on to the injectors. the unions have been nipped up but theres still a slight leakage (according to the owner). cheers shaun

The pipes have probably been undone and then retightened at some stage. They are not supposed to be reused because the end of the pipe deforms and creates a seal against the injector and the nut.

You can try and undo the nut and reseat the pipe on the injector before tightening it up, but the old course of action recommended by FMC is the replacement of the pipe set.

Thats about £80 worth of pipes

thanks nighthawk, that sounds right - the owner had the van in the local ford dealer for a fuel starvation problem which they fixed, however he rang me a few weeks later to do a service & loss of power. i found the intake hose between turbo & manifold adrift due to clips left loose ! also notced fuel leak on a couple of injectors - the unions were quite loose on the ones that were leaking so i guess the garage had undone them then not renewed the pipes ? thanks again shaun

Would PTFE tape work? Is it diesel resistant?

i have used it on a oil line once and it held out :)
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

getting slightly off topic but heres some more on the p.t.f.e front, fine on water, compressed air and most oils and some chemicals, but it is not recommended on any gas instalation as gas degrades the p.t.f.e, use loctite threadseal instead.
