High Reving Transit 90T350

Hi,

I have just bought myself a 2003, 53 plate Transit 90T350 High roof, Long wheel base. First impressions are not good, i have noticed that it seems to scream it nuts off at 70mph! At 70mph it is sitting at 4,000 revs in fifth gear!! IS THIS RIGHT???? Also flat out down a hill it will only do 80mph!!!
How can i check what diff is in it? I believe you can tell from the plate inside the passenger door?
Please help as my fuel bill is going to be through the roof!!!

wow sound like you have got a van that is geard for towing! if you go to your local ford dealer and type your reg number in this will tell you what ratio you have,sound like a 5.83

Thanks for the reply, would you have any idea where to get an other diff for this van and also what is the best ratio to go for? I do a lot of motorway miles.
I am also thinking about upping the bhp a little with one of those plug in ecu boost thingymabobs!?!?! Any idea what type and where to get one?

I was thinking of the 4.63.1 diff for the motorway miles but i can't find any websites anywhare that sell them or auctions. Any ideas??

Also any ideas for boosting the power on the 90ps please?

check the thread (More Power-Help) there having the same problems its in the MK6 & MK7 - Third generation transits. I dont Know if your van insurers would need to Know if your planning on souping up your engine best check first You might be able to get the parts you need from a breakers yard but i dont think you should chip the engine until you have changed the axle ratio it sounds like its already reving its gonads off

you will need a 4.63 ,this is the best they do in your type axle! the cost would be loads this is the problem as your van isnt very old, you need to find a breakers that would have one in! this is the only way to go, if you can find sombody to change the crownwheel and pinion this will still cost alot of money and there are not many people out there who can do this job!
also your speedo will be out!
i am very shocked at how high this revs all i can think of is who ever had the van before you orderd it in for towing!

I have a towbar so it probaly has been used for towing, but I do serious motorway miles. I was thinking the axle was the way too go.

I know for a fact that warrington transmissons (aka Black diamond-warrington) can sort you out, but they are a few miles away.

i've just put a transit owner in touch with them because they were a much cheaper option than a dealer, although a dealer will need to re set the speedo for you as the speed signal goes to the dash via the engine's PCM

yeh i do love the way you can re-calibrate the speedo with a laptop you can tweek the speedo if you say put lower profile tyres on by measuring the circumference of the tyre in milimeters then tapping that into the vans computor job done, correct speed shown

I wonder if it would stand up in court if your speedo was out , say you was doing 35mph on a gatso but the van speedo said 30mph after all you could prove it?
