MK7 de-cat pipe, someone please make one.

Postby Mike » Mon Dec 14, 2009 2:34 pm

As above really, loads of people seem to want to de-cat their vans but don't want to spend hours bashing the crap out of it.

I'm sure there's some money to be made once the first one has been made and a jig has been made.

Anyone?

Edit: If you're interesetd in a de-cat pipe, PM me and I'll add a list of names to this post rather than clutter the thread.

Would he be able to do them as a send out? For the MK7 also?

I'm not sure how different the MK6 is to the MK7 but I had my "CAT" removed and a by-pass pipe fitted, also the cat was prepared so that the by-pass can be removed and the cat refitted in around 10 minutes.

All this for £95 at Pro-Speed in Cardiff. Seems like I got a bargain!

Cheers,

Rob

That's the sort of price I'd be prepared to pay if I was fitting it myself.

Yep, I'd be interested - sub £100.

Has anyone decatted a mk 7, is there any problems with general engine running or is it a pure (mild) performance upgrade etc

Where is the DPF, is that part of the cat too or located somewhere else in the exhaust, what about sensors on the DPF, doesn't the van lose power & overfuel to burn the soot out of the DPF?

Yes it's just a mild performance/economy upgrade, it helps things flow a bit better. A for the DPF, I'm not sure where it is but it's an optional extra, so you won't have one unless you paid for it.

I see, I can't see many people wanting a full stainless syste for a MK7 yet, my MK6 system lasted over 100k miles (and may still be OK).

I'd just literally like a pipe that replaces the standard cat.

Surely the purpose of the CAT is to reduce emissions - will it fail the MOT if removed?

Ok, for some reason I thought that all Mk7's (& modern diesels) had them to meet the latest regs, obviously not.

They do.

BUT there is a big difference between what boffins in white coats in a lab class as emissions & what your average bloke on the street class as emissions.

The MOT emission test (on a diesel) only checks how black/dense the smoke is when the engine is revved flat out at standstill, not the NOx or whatever it is that the cat reduces.

They all appear to have what we're calling a cat, some say that it's just a particle filter. If that were the case then I don't see why Ford offer a particle filter as an option.

Maybe someone can clear this up?
