Leaking Roof

Postby Hughsie » Tue Feb 16, 2010 8:09 pm

Hi guys,
I've just bought a 54 reg swb low roof transit, and i've noticed a leak along the join in the roof at the rear of the van. Theres now some rust forming as well!
Is this a common problem? And any advice on what I can do would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks

Yes its a common problem because Ford never put any sealer on the joint, the MK7s have a run of sealer along it, You need to dry it out and then seal along the seam with seam sealer or similar

had this problem with my 53 reg in the heavy rain October last year there is a product out there i think it was called seak and seal or something like that it is a fluid and you just run it into the crack and it sets with a rubber solution (flexible) then i had a epoxy radiator sealant over the top of it and it has been bone dry ever since
will find the rubberizing stuff if you want a product name as it worked wonders

Yes please! I'd love a product name. Just don't want it getting any worse, the rest of the van's mint.
Thanks for the replies guys, Chris

there is a product called CT1 which you can use an wet or dry surfaces it is great and solvent free I use it for sealing window frames on a building that sits 10 feet from the sea can be obtained from good builders merchants used with a normal mastic gun :D
If Carlsberg made vans they would copy the TRANSIT

found the product i was on about
made by this company http://www.captaintolley.com/
its called captain tolleys creeping crack cure
apparently can get it from chandeliers and mariners as its widly used in boats
then over the top i had some halfords radiator and water pipe jolop that sets hard but is rubbery and sticks to metal so that has completely fixed the leaks
hope that helps
