The clutches will smell when subjected to a usage which heats them up above normal temperatures. This has come about because of a change in material used to make the friction linings.

The smell usually goes away after a short while of normal driving.

Repeated stop starting and manuvering tend to warm the clutch up quite quickly.

So, if your not suffering with clutch slip and the smell isn't there now you can forget it

There was an old TSB on the 100Ps tddi which detailed the replacement of the clutch and flywheel for thos fitted to the 75ps engine, this also involved a new crank pulley but it was for a slipping clutch, not just a smell.
