How easy to wire subwoofer to stock Ford radio?

Postby Tran59 » Thu Aug 19, 2010 8:42 am

I would like to install one of these amplified Bazooka bass tubes on the floor between the driver's seat and the passenger bench.

It should fit physically (just!), but how simple is it to get a feed off the stock Ford headunit? Are there any auxilliary outputs on the back of the unit and is it easy to remove from the dash (tools)?

This is what I have:

Any advice or alternative installation ideas much appreciated, but a 'proper' bass box in the load area is not an option, as I need all the available space and have the full bulkhead.

You need a set of release keys to pull the stereo, you can buy them on ebay, but I dont think there are any auxiallary outputs on it, however I stand to be corrected

That sounds just the job. Many thanks :) I will endeavour to get a set of release keys, too.

Many thanks for your very generous offer. I have looked at the Autoleads website and the lead I need would appear to be this one: http://productfinder.autoleads.co.uk/productinfo.aspx?&m=FORD&f=TRANSIT&id=537&pID=29937

Can you confirm? It does look very specific and I'm not sure whether I will be able to source one over here in France. I have sent them an email to see if they can send me one direct, otherwise I will take you up on your offer (obviously paying you for your trouble) :)

No, that is an adaptor for fitting an aftermarket stereo.

You need an autoleads pc1-601 which is a Line Output Connector.

Wow, thanks guys, you have been SO helpful. I have ordered a set of release keys and the PC1-601 adapter lead from the same seller on eBay :) Now I just have to find a suitable powered sub...

Thanks again, your help is really appreciated 8)

Here you go:

Release keys:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PC5-132-Audi-Symp ... ltDomain_3

Line output converter:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... AQ:GB:1123

After much research re. which sub sounds best, frequency response, value for money, physical size, etc. I have ordered the Kenwood KSC SW10. According to my measurements, this will sit vertically against the frame of the passenger bench beside the handbrake without sticking out beyond the seat squabs.

Image

I would have liked the Bazooka pictured at the top of the page for the extra sound depth, but it is really big (47cm long!) and, on careful measurement, I realised it would stick out beyond the seats (unsightly). I also thought that a compact flat design would be easier to adapt to future vehicles I own.

It says in the Kenwood manual I downloaded that you can tap into the rear speaker wires directly for the sub's input feed, so I might try to cancel the output converter I ordered.

You may also have to have the rear speaker output enabled, a plugin job at your dealer.

Probably be easier and cheaper to fit an aftermarket head unit.

What about the remote lead, can you pick that up from the standard stereo?
