MK6 knocking and white smoke

Been out (in the rain) to look at a fellow members MK6 120 T350 2.4

Basically parked it up, left it the day, whent to start it, was very sluggish to start, has got a knock, no power, wont rev, LOADS of white diesel smoke

Theres no bubbles in the header tank

No glow plug light on,

Does this sound like a timing solenoid, injector or something more serious?

sounds like head gasket to me.

Sounds exactly like a fuel pump breaking down, swarf getting into injectors causing fuel not to atomize correctly, if left will just put a hole in a piston.
check fuel in the filter for swarf.

Its smoke not steam, no bubbles in header tank, no gunge on oil cap, no pipes blowing up

its apparenly had a pump not so long ago

What was wrong with the pump

IF it had broke down then tank should have been removed cleaned, new filter and check/replaced injectors otherwise the swarf would contaminate new pump and injectors.

I came across a 2.4 which was doing the same thing.wasnt bubbling, ran like a pig, lack of power, excess noise. turned out head gasket failed between the oil and cylinders.

Rocker shaft bolts lose? after the timing jumping?

Never seen or heard of a genuine Head gasket fault with a duratorque engine, very uncommon.
seen a cracked head though between inlet ports.

Rocker shaft bolts lose? after the timing jumping?

will defo check that, im thinking of running it and cracking the injector pipes one at a time and see what makes a difference
