54plate, 2.0 duratorq wont run?

Postby looneyfitter » Mon Jan 03, 2011 8:25 pm

Hey all i thought id start a new thread as will make it easier if other people have similar probs. Right I have a 85ps transit and the cam carrier snapped. I managed to get hold of a a 52 plate mondeo 115ps all with the same type of turbo as mine etc (not variable vain) I have swapped over

Pump, injectors, turbo, alternator, PCM (ecu), and transponder. The van starts 1st time no probs at all but only runs for about 10secs? She revs up etc then cuts out.

What i have noticed is that some of the lights on the cluster are acting funny ie, the service light stays on, the battery light is off when not started and on when is started, Also the digital display has four dashes.

Any ideas? Really need my van for work now as im back in on Thursaday.

Cheers People.

Gareth

oh bummer :!: :!: :!: , the tddis have a lift pump in the fuel tank

you could fit the 125ps transit one that goes ontop of filter housing.

which cluster do you have fitted then :?:

have you refitted the 3 pin multiplug to the altenator, and it also unplugs a bit further up the loom aswell.

Hello mate cheers for the reply. Yeah i have plugged the 3 pin plug in. IM using the transit loom so didnt unplug it futher up the loom. Is as if its working backwards. What does the lift pump do? It starts and ticks over fine but dead on 5 seconds or so it dies. (everytime) it seems to be electronic. What would usually give these syptoms?

Dont suppose you know how much the lift pumps are do you? Trying to find a 115ps one that goes on the filter in a scrappy round here will be a nightmare.

IM using the Transit cluster btw.

Gareth

P.s the mondeo steering wheel is the he agon type... NOt sure what the transit is?

Few pics.

Cluster with engine not running.

Alternator, plug is a little close to knuckle but doesnt touch.

The Transit fuel pipes dont fit the mondeo pump either. You have to use the mondeo pipes but modify the return as is hits the EGR.
This is just temp.

With regards to the lift pump. can a standard external 3bAr HP petrol pump be used? Ive got a spare one kicking round from my kit car, where is it fed from tho>

is that the transit altenator :?: thought the mondeo one had main connection at the back, right next to multiplug :?:

have you still got the full mondeo, you can follow the wire that go to lift pump, think its from a big gret multiplug in engine bay, and the lift pump might be externall to the tank so you could use that.

you must have used the transit turbo did you without the EG cooler connection on bottom of manifold.

The cluster does that when theres an earth not connected or wiring fault.
Also im sure the pcm uses the alt for the rev counter, so if alt is not working/connected correctly the revs will not show up.

Just a thought..... I had couldnt get the pump to purge at 1st (low on diesel in the tank) so i just put the pump feed into a gerri can full of diesel and left the return connected to the filter ( so the filter feed was open ended) would that poss cause faults? Just seems weird its bang on about 5 secs everytime...

yeah thats the mondeo alt with duct on the back.
if any pipes were left open it will suck air in normally as the lift pump in side fuel pump works on vacumn, but if the mondeo fuel pump has the seperate lift pump then there shouldnt of been any vacumn, or does the fuel pump still have some suction :?:

mondeo has an external lift pump by the tank so im gonna fit it. Does it run permanently? With engone started? Is it fed from the PCM? Also tried putting both the flow and return into the gerri can with the same results

Struggling with the alternator. The mondeo has 3 wires where as the transit has 2. Had a look in Haynes for the transit and the white/green is for the cluster and red is battery. Done some tracing and the wires at the PCM are different colours and in different locations for both the Mondeo and the Transit.

Do you have a PCM diagram by any chance for both the Mondeo and the Transit? Haynes doesnt show any.

Cheers Mate.

the only wiring diagram i have is for a 125tdci.
