Split-charge relays

Postby mikeyb » Tue Aug 29, 2006 11:53 am

Can anyone help?Am converting my Mk6(2002) into a Motorcaravan and want to fit a split-charge relay to power fridge/charge leisure batteries whilst on the move. This was no problem on last one I converted (Smiley)
as electrics were simple. In absence of a Manual can anyone tell me if the electrics on Mk6 is of the"multiplexed or can-bus" type? If so, this needs a different relay than I used before.Cheers folks,Mikeyb.

I thought multiplexed or can-bus only came into wiring trailer sockets as these are to do with the lights!

I'll use the same type of relay as I did the last time. There isn't actually any connection with any system other than vans charging circuit.Correct?

buy yourself a voltage sensitive split charge relay - they only join the batteries when they sense charge voltage - no charge system connection necessary

The best place i've found to buy this sort of thing is a boat chandlery, depending on what amperage you require they can do them from about 30amps right up to about 300amps.

I know in the aquafax catalogue there are a few and they are the smart type. This kind of place will be quite helpful as they deal with this sort of thing all the time.
