Sorry I don't have any pics. But,to sum the situation up,when I unbolted the 5 torx bolt that hold the wheel hub/disc to the steering knuckle, the hub and disc have come away with a taper bearing attached to the shaft. The front of the bearing where the 5 torx bolts have been removed from is still in situ on the steering knuckle. If I replace the old disc will I have a problem refitting the unit back together again or will I need any special tools to achieve this or will the whole lot bolt back together if I tighten the spline shaft up with the old hub nut, remove it then fit the new hub nut,(hopefully compressing the bearing back into position)?. have you got a pic i dont get it

I was afraid someone was going to tell me that!.I"m really surprised that the knuckle didn't split and come away like the example shown in the Haynes manual, given the forces you apply when moving the whole assembly to remove it.Would a viable alternative to having to use a press,(which I don't have access to),be to replacing the whole assembly, steering knuckle and all?. I would have thought the best thing to do is to change the wheel bearing,
Also check the drive flange as it should be hard to remove inner bearing race without press.

Brains Mk6 transit wrote:When I done my bearings I cut the outer race off as I mentioned above then took the bearings and hub without the disc fitted to a local garage and they let me use the press. Since both can be done in 5-10 mins they won't charge you much. Hammering them on is the pikey way.
