This answer im giving you is for the mk1 1.8
You must tell us all details .. year, engine size, otherwise you get a guessed answer or NO ANSWER
1.When you put the key into the lock, can you hear automation going on ..meaning you lock it .. it then unlocks automatically without you turning the key.
2, The central locking will not work if any lock is having trouble ......you have back doors that are locked permanently. and its having trouble .. it must know this, therefore some of the wires are not cut?
You cant get out of this .. i dont know a solution ...but try this
if the wires were intact ... i would tell you to do this :- --- TRY ANYWAY --- because i dont exactly know what you are going on about!
Another thing, you can do, to activate the the central locking in a test is:-
This is to program a fob .. you don't need a fob, but the van should still react to the programming.
Put your key in the ignition and rapidly turn it to the point just before the starter motor turns, 8 times rapidly . after 8.. all the locks should cycle ,This cycling event, may get you out of trouble. it may cycle them to working again .
Don't over do this .. as i don't know, if over doing this, will cycle the glow plugs to failure
all the best.mark
