12v car heaters

Postby gt_addict » Tue Nov 27, 2012 11:12 am

Hi guys,

Just after people's opinions for 12v car heaters/demisters. I haven't got a heated screen and obviously in the colder weather it takes ages to clear the screen (I'm not a fan of using a demister pad/sponge). Anyone used one or has one? What do you think of them?

Cheers,

Peter.

they're all.... crap

they'd have to pull 40+amps at 12v before they did any real good (500watts)

open your window.... it'll help it demist until the engine gets warmed up :-)

I have two that are 150 watts and there crap, if you can run them of a leasure battery you might need to run them for at least 15 mins to get any type of heat out of them.

Blimey 15mins? The van would've warmed up by then.

This is obviously a no go then

Thanks for the replies guys.

Air con is the way to go. Super quick demist in winter, lovely n cool in summer. Well, you might need to go abroad to really appreciate the summer bit. :)

You could fit a heated screen, although I'm guessing the wiring will not be in place and you'll need to do that as well.

If you are at home just run an extention lead out to the van with a fan heater! Plug it in but dont switch it on. Switch it on when you get up. Toasty van by the time you go out. Now tell me you live on the 15th floor and I'll get me coat

Just gave me an  I can use one of thesehttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-12V-LCD-Di ... 489&_uhb=1 to turn my inverter on with a greenhouse heater (low power consumption) plugged in a couple of hours before I use my van :)

I would be careful about using a heater on the battery without the engine running. You might flatten the battery.
