Speedo broken , door locks , stiff gears

Postby bazzer933 » Sun Dec 30, 2012 2:26 am

1st post so hi all

Bought a 55 plate transit connect yesterday,,

Couple hopefully minor problems with it,,

SPEEDO
The speedo and mile counter does not work ,, I have been told its almost certainly a new speedo head needed from a mate who has had loads of them but hate spending money on guesswork,, I have checked a few posts and it seems it may indeed be that but may also be a sensor or even fuses ,it looks as though it jammed half way between the last mot and now looking at the miles on the mot ,, what would be the most logical sequence to try fix and if it was the speedo head can I just buy one from ebay and is it an easy swap?

DOOR LOCKS

The doors will lock with the key but will not open again ,, I managed to get them to open after 10 mins jiggling the key about but think was just luck ,, The key is really worn and struggles in the ignition also so I am going to try get another made and fingers crossed that may unlock them , I was told to buy a fob but being honest I dont know if it has remote central locking, how can I check ?

GEARS

Seem to work fine but a few times today it was as though I had to really push it certain gears 2nd a few times 3rd once and reverse once, no grinding noises it just never seemed to slip in almost as though it had popped out noticed it around 5 times today ,, I have short legs so will push chair forward as first solution lol then I think Ill get the clutch cable checked to make sure its tight , failing that any other obvious checks I can do ?

Im planning on getting a mechanic to stick a rear seat from a transit mini bus I was told this is ok but think Ill mention it to my insurance to be sure,, my first impression were that its fantastic on fuel compared to my L200 and surprisingly good to drive just hope ive not purchased a shed. A lot to digest for a first post so appologys if I bored anyone Im sure when I fix the issues I have ill have a good wee van

Hi, I'm having a similar problem with the gear change on mine, it's pretty random, some days it feels fine, others it's pretty obstructive, 1st and 3rd being the main offenders. I'm being led to believe it's a weak spring in the clutch plate.

I had a problem with my key exactly the same had to wiggle it in the door couldn't open bonnet and fuel cap! So I rang ford and asked if it had remote central locking which it did.. So I bought a used focus central locking key and programmed it to van (which is real easy) then I went to the lock smiths and the key was well worn so they picked lock to get code and cut key to fit fob.... Now all locks work and have remote central lock all for a small £30....
