The one in the pic. If it looks that bad under the bonnet I don't think it will be well looked after.

Does this engine look bad?

YES.

As stated previous the state of that engine bay smacks of neglect to me, and the oil mist round the filler is a classic case of "breathing" or excessive crankcase pressure more than likely due to worn bores/pistons rings ect. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!

Good luck with whatever you decide to buy.

The guy with the LX wont return my calls after asing for more pics of the van (im smelling a rat)
I have spoke to the guy with the Tddi (engine pictured) he has told me that he was told the turbo was on its way out by one garage the reason he took it to the garage was he said it was holding back with lack of power he then too it to a 2nd garage and they told him the turbo was fine and the exhaust was at fault a blockage or something so maybe the oil around the rocker cover is back pressure due to the exhaust being blocked, with the new exhaust on he saying the van runs fine does this sound like it could have been the problem ??? he said he will let the van go at 1600 tbh im finding it hard to find a good van for under 2k swb low roof

If it was me I wouldn't touch it but if you still want to go ahead then check the engine oil level first, give it a real good run and get it up to operating temperature check for any blue smoke from the exhaust and remove the oil filler cap whilst running and check for back pressure.
Also ask yourself why anyone who looks after a vehicle would advertise it looking like that and needing water?

Good luck!

I was looing at that one but im unsure about the damge to the front corner bumper and grille can be changed but it looks like it could have moved the wing and bonnet which would start costing again normally i would just buy and sort the small stuff out but im on very limited funds atm trying to get my self back into work

How much is a screen for a connect ??

No idea on screen but I bet you could get a new bumper for next to nothing as loads of members have changed to the mk2 style. I've got one without fog light holes you could have for free. I'd rather get a low milage van with a bit of bodywork over a high milage one any day.

Well ive gone and done it now i bought the van with the dirty engine and tbh its looks heck of alot worse on the photos that in real life.
The turbo problem was sorted the van had a new exhaust fitted shortly after this it felt like the turbo was giving up so off to the local garage it went and faulty turbo was said at that garage, so he took the van to another garage for a 2nd opinion and it was found that the new exhaust was at fault not letting the gases pass through so it was choking the engine so the van was took back to exhaust fittinf garage and another new exhaust fitted and turbo problem was no longer there.
I know some said dont buy with the milage and the engine looking like it did on the photo but upon going to look at the van the engine aint too bad and it drives very well the bodywork is near on perfect so went ahead and bought it and an 04 plate van with 99k @ £1500 seems a deal with room in the price i paid for any repairs it may need in the future
I would just like to thank everyone for there input and advice given whilst i was making my choice so off to the wanted section i go to start on a few small changes for the better :D
Happy New Year to you all
